Ah, the holiday season. It’s a wonderfully magical time, especially if you’re in love! Sharing warm drinks, snuggling up by the fire, exchanging meaningful gifts; there are hundreds of ways to spend time with your significant other in celebration of the season.
If, however, you find yourself single during the holidays, this time of year can straight up suck. There are constant reminders of happy couples everywhere (don’t even get us started on those Kay Jewelers commercials), and it can feel at once overwhelming and isolating. But the more we thought about it, the more we realized that it might not be all that bad. Here are five reasons why being single during the holidays isn’t completely the worst.
You don’t have to spend a ton of money on a super special/meaningful gift for someone else. Go ahead, spend that money on yourself. You deserve it for surviving the season solo.
You don’t have to split time seeing both your families. Holiday traveling is much easier when you only have one destination, plus you don’t have to miss out on any family traditions.
You don’t have to go to your S.O.’s awkward work/family/friend party. And you don’t have to worry about what you’ll wear to each of those functions! Just concentrate on not being awkward at your own work party.
You don’t have to feel guilty about holiday feasting. Have that fifth glass of spiked egg nog and stuff some cookies in your bag for later. No one cares!
You are free to celebrate the holidays however you want. Love watching all three Santa Clause movies in a row? Do it. Want to go ice skating on a weeknight? Strap on your skates. Make your own traditions and celebrate the season the way that makes you the happiest!
