all-inAs any voracious reader knows, there are so many books out there, it can be hard to choose just what to read next. So what could be better than a hand-picked recommendation from someone in the know? Every Wednesday the XOXOAD team likes to find out what some of its favorite authors are reading. This week, we’ve asked Gabra Zackman, author of the Bod Squad series, whose second installment in the series, ALL IN, went on sale Monday!

Well, it has been a long summer and we’re only partway through it!  I’m in the middle of performing a couple of plays with The Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, and we just opened so I finally have time to read again, my very favorite way to spend a summer’s day!

First on my list is ALL THE LIGHT WE CANNOT SEE by Anthony Doerr.  I rarely find myself ordering a hardcover book, but I’ve been so excited by all the chat about about this that I’m chomping at the bit.  And romance meets poetic language meets a period piece is where I lose myself the most.

I’ve also been waiting to read Maria V. Snyder’s INSIDE OUT/ OUTSIDE IN, two companion sci fi books by one of my fave romance writers. I have long narrated her work, and she gave me these as a gift after we had a conversation about both of us having a secret (or not so secret) love of sci fi.

I’m soon to narrate MENAGERIE, a new Rachel Vincent book, for Recorded Books, and just finished narrating VELVET ANGEL by Jude Deveraux, one of several series I’ve done for her and for Simon and Schuster. I read a lot of romance for my narration work, and it always feels like coming home.

The most recent book I got lost in was what I call “the perfect sit and soak bath book,” Jake Needham’s THE AMBASSADOR’S WIFE.  Fantastic mystery, fantastic characters, very inspiring for my own work!  I had connected with Jake on Twitter and was thrilled to read his work. Can’t wait to read more.

And that’s the summer lineup at the moment. I won’t deny that I have an addiction to VANITY FAIR magazine as well and like to read that while painting my nails.  That, and THE WEEK, where I can get my news in bite sized portions:)

Happy Summer, all!
