XOXO is excited to welcome back New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones to our blog! Though she can’t dish as much as she wants to, Lisa is here to talk with us about how her crazy successful INSIDE OUT series is now being made into a cable show by STARZ! Despite not having even a free second to breathe, Lisa was gracious enough to carve out some time to tell us more about the process of creating her very own cable show.

Hi everyone!

With the release of HIS SECRETS, and all the questions about the status of the TV show, I thought I’d share a few tidbits. Right now, we are in the development stage and we have fun things happening behind the scenes. I just can’t share anything quite yet. I do hope that in the next 4-6 weeks there might be some fun news!

Since I get lots of questions about casting for the TV show and how that is going to work I thought I’d talk about that today. Basically, with cable there is no pilot for the show. There is simply the order for production, usually for 10 episodes. Once that happens, it goes straight to casting. So that will be VERY exciting!

Who handles casting? It will be the STARZ executives and the producers. Do I have a say? No, but I’ve talked to them about casting and I have extreme confidence in how they will handle it. They love these characters the way I do and they see them so close to the way I do, and it’s really a joy to know this.

One thing I noticed when the casting for 50 Shades was happening, and even as people anticipate the casting for Inside Out, is that they get wrapped up in hair color and eye color. I sat with the producers and an executive from STARZ chatting about how actors transform for roles all the time. They change hair color, eye color, go on diets, get trainers, and so on. So don’t freak if someone has dark hair. They can be blonde or dark or red or whatever. What is important? These are a few of the things I know from my exposure so far, and I’m sure that there are plenty more I don’t know!

  • Good acting is #1!
  • Age range that can endure a good 7 years on TV and still fit the story.
  • Availability.
  • Willingness to do nudity when there is nudity.
  • The right salary.
  • The chemistry of the different actors.

As you can see there are many factors, but in the end, it’s going to be so very exciting to see who wears that dragon tattoo as Chris Merit and who suits up with the arrogance of Mark Compton. Let’s not forget Sara…she’s going to be important and special. She is the center of the Inside Out universe. The show will be seen through her eyes, and the people involved in the show want her to be the Carrie Bradshaw of Inside Out, I promise.

Hopefully, I’ll be writing a post very soon to update you on the things going on behind the scenes! And we will do virtual champagne toasts that I can finally share!
