If you’ve been searching for your next great romantic suspense read search no more, for one of our favorite romantic suspense writers Alison Brennan is here to help! The DELIVER US FROM EVIL author took the time to recommend three amazing reads that you’re sure to love! If you count her book, now on sale from Pocket Star, then you now have four books to add to your #tbr list! You’re welcome in advance.

Writers are readers first and foremost. I would venture to guess that most writers fell in love with stories at an early age, probably before they could read the words themselves. The first books I distinctly remember loving was the Trixie Belden series that I started in second grade. They’d been published long before, but I didn’t care—there was something about Trixie and her brothers, Jim and Honey, that drew me in and turned me into a mystery lover.

Fast forward to college when I read my first Nora Roberts book, a romantic suspense that gripped me and, in part, turned me into the writer I am today. What’s better than a compelling mystery coupled with a love story? For me … not much.

That’s why three of my favorite books of 2016 are romantic suspense titles:

apprentice-in-death

Apprentice In Death by J.D. Robb

Yes, J.D. Robb is Nora Roberts pen name for her futuristic mystery series. I discovered the series seven books in and have read every single one. Forty-three books in and the series is still one of my all-time favorites. (The world building! The friendships! The mystery! Roarke!) But seriously, the main reason I love this series is because of Eve Dallas and the depth of character and growth that hasn’t waned. APPRENTICE is a stellar example of a series that has had very few duds and many, many winners.

the-obsession

The Obsession by Nora Roberts

Yes, another Nora book, and I didn’t do this on purpose. I don’t read a lot of romance, but romantic suspense? It’s my favorite. And no one does it better than Nora Roberts. If you’ve never tried her because you think she’s written too many books or can’t possibly keep writing great stories after over 100 novels … read The Obsession. It’s arguably the best book she’s ever written – and she’s written a lot of great books.

saints-of-lost-and-found

The Saints of the Lost and Found by T.M. Causey

A dark, gothic suspense novel combined with a truly emotional love story entwined with complex family relationships and a heroine you can not help but root for. While not “technically” a romantic suspense, there is a secondary romantic thread that will keep you reading – though the sibling love and sacrifice is what made me cry. This is a truly exemplary book.

Very Honorable Mention …

I love Laura Griffin’s Tracers series, and have AT CLOSE RANGE pre-ordered. So while I can’t tell you it’s one of the best books I’ve read … yet … it’s the next book on my TBR pile, as soon as Amazon delivers it next week!

Also pre-ordered? ECHOES IN DEATH by J.D. Robb,  RIGHT BEHIND YOU by Lisa Gardner, and THE DEVIL’S TRIANGLE by Catherine Coulter and J.T. Ellison. Already, I can tell 2017 is going to be a great year for readers!
