Hello again!!

Thank you to XOXO After Dark for having me back on their blog to chat a bit about my upcoming release, BEHIND CLOSED DOORS! I can’t quite believe this book is finally complete and ready to be in readers’ hands. In all honestly, I’ve been writing this book for going on 3 years now. No joke. That’s so abnormal for me. It was originally a just-for-fun project that morphed into something entirely else when readers got a taste of it on Storage Treasures, and then it ended up becoming a full-length novel that was so unlike my other books. It was the book that wasn’t meant to be, but HAD to be. It’s offered me a lot of solace while writing it because I wrote it right before I finished another book of mine, SURRENDER (Careless Whispers book 3), which it’s loosely tied to. And given that SURRENDER is my darkest book to date, I needed the levity this book offered and I wanted my readers to have it as well.

This book is a sexy mystery. Much like my other books, but it’s a standalone. And why I rarely write standalones is that I love to delve into a character’s story and learn everything about them. Often times standalones don’t offer me the time and space to do that, so I have to write the book more succinctly. And while I couldn’t get to the grit, I got to write some really fun scenes I normally wouldn’t have written if I were going to be writing another 3 book series. This book is lighter in some ways, and then again it’s still my same voice and I can’t write a book without a little danger and drama in it, I promise, I’m just not capable of it. So what became of this book is something different, yet every bit a part of my writing style at the same time.

And the part that I’m most excited about, besides finally telling Skye and Jason’s story, of course, is that I ran a little wild while writing this book and decided to give readers a taste of Ella’s life (she’s the heroine in my aforementioned Careless Whispers series) BEFORE she lost her memory and woke up in that alleyway in Italy with Kayden. Her scenes had me laughing so much, and I hope they will garner the same response from you.

All in all, I just can’t wait for my reader to get their hands on Skye and Jason’s story. For some of you who read the snippets years ago, I hope I did the story justice, for those you who are just finding this story, I hope you’ll fall madly in love with Jason and learn to live with Skye. These two were in it for the long haul with me, so I hope you enjoy their story every bit as I did while writing it!

With that being said, I want to share a tiny snippet with you. It’s one of my favorite exchanges between the heroine and hero, Skye and Jason. I’d love to hear what you think!

“I don’t like games,” I whisper, my hand on the hard wall of Jason’s really amazing chest, his heart racing like mine is. Like I affect him, even when I know there are scantily clad, big breasted, gorgeous women waiting on him downstairs. Like he feels what I do. Like something I don’t intend to be happening between us, and I know he doesn’t intend either, is still happening.
“Our private games are not just games,” he promises, and that mouth of his, that sexy, delicious mouth I now know is damn good at kissing me, is close again, lingering, teasing us with the touch he doesn’t yet give us. “I’ll make you like them.”
“You can’t.”
“I’m a poker player, baby. I’ll take that bet and double down.”

“There is no bet.”

“I just made one.”

“It takes two to bet—at least in this case.”

“You placed yours when you got on that plane with me.” He leans in, his cheek pressed to mine, lips brushing my ear, sending a chill down my spine. “Did I mention how damn glad I am that you did?”
