Christmas in our family has always come with a flurry of baking. I remember baking every treat that we could think of for days on end until there was no room left in the fridge to store our goodies. Then we would take advantage of the cold South Dakota Decembers and use our mudroom as a large walk-in cooler.

9781501104268Now as a mom myself I’ve continued that tradition with our little family, although maybe not quite to that extent! The week before Christmas we like to make a few goodies and then on Christmas Eve we have platefuls of special cookies, a simple cheeseball, hot chocolate, and we settle in together to open our stocking gifts and watch a family Christmas movie. I love how baking is just another way to bring the family together during this special time of year.

What are some of your fondest baking memories and traditions around the holidays?

And my fondest baking memories is every single year my mom and I would get together and make all kinds of fudge and divinity. Then I’d go crazy with all kinds of Christmas cookies that I just loved giving out to neighbors and coworkers.

My Mom and Aunt used to come together one of the weekends before Christmas and bake an assortment of cookies. These were days reserved just for baking and enough cookies were baked to last through the holidays.
