What I’m Reading: Jennifer Probst

As any voracious reader knows, there are so many books out there, it can be hard to choose just what to read next. So what could be better than a hand-picked recommendation from someone in the know? Every Wednesday the XOXOAD team likes to find out what some of its favorite authors are reading. This week, we’ve asked the wonderfully talented New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Probst to tell us what she’s been burying her nose in these days!

What am I reading?

Ah, such a great question! My pile is always eclectic. There is usually a book on writing nearby so I can read a quick chapter per night, plus a delicious sexy contemporary I gorge on, or a juicy thriller that makes me stay up too late with all the lights on.

Since yesterday was a wonderful blur to celebrate my new release, Searching for Beautiful, I grabbed the first two books on my nightstand to share with you. They both comforted me from publication day nerves LOL!

1. The Girl in 6E by A. R. Torre – nothing like an erotic thriller with a mind twist to get your mind off release day nerves! I finished this late into the night and my head’s still spinning. Our heroine locks herself up in an apartment in order to protect the world from her murderous instincts to kill people. What happens when the door is finally opened? OH, you want to find out!

2.Dangerous Books for Girls – by Maya Rodale. If you’re a romance writer or reader and want to delve into a literary explanation of the history of women and romance novels, this book is a must have. Explores the social stigma of reading romance, and the journey of women and their love for these mass market paperbacks. Smart, educated, fearless – every romance writer and reader should have this book.

Long before clinch covers and bodice rippers, romance novels had a bad reputation as the lowbrow lit of desperate housewives and hopeless spinsters. But why? Dangerous Books for Girls examines the secret history of the genre’s bad reputation and shows how romance novels have inspired and empowered generations of women to dream big, refuse to settle, and believe they’re worth it.
