Happy New Year! It’s officially 2015, and everyone is busy making their New Years resolutions. To help out, we’ve got a list of Dos and Don’ts from Thinspired author Mara Schiavocampo. This list offers reasonable and pragmatic advice for creating a new you for the new year. So, without further ado:

Dos

Do create small, measurable goals – the road to success is paved with baby steps

Do focus most of your efforts on your food – great bodies are made in the kitchen, not the gym

Do eat outside the box – focus your diet on “real” food

Do double or triple the dishes you cook, so you don’t have to cook as often

Do focus on better quality sleep – cut back on caffeine and alcohol, use blackout shades or eye masks, keep your bedroom a cool temperature

Do push yourself to the limit when you exercise – a hard workout is where the growth is

Do try to find a workout that you enjoy – if you love it, it won’t be such a chore

Do make meal planning part of your routine – it’s not fun, but it creates major results

Don’ts

Don’t create any grand plans for losing weight – they’re intimidating and discouraging

Don’t skimp on your sleep – it’s a necessity, not an indulgence

Don’t focus solely on exercising away the pounds – it’s just one piece of the puzzle

Don’t avoid weighing yourself – the scale is just a tool to gauge your progress

Don’t focus on being thin, focus on being strong – it’s a much more powerful motivator

Don’t let setbacks discourage you – make them a set-up for a comeback

Don’t focus on your mistakes – you can’t move forward while you’re looking backward
