As any voracious reader knows, there are so many books out there, it can be hard to choose just what to read next. So what could be better than a hand-picked recommendation from someone in the know? Every Wednesday the XOXOAD team likes to find out what some of its favorite authors are reading; today we’ve asked Larissa Ione, author of Bound By Night and the upcoming sequel Chained By Night (on sale 9/30/14 from Pocket Books) to tell us!

I have to say, the timing of this post couldn’t be better. I just finished with three deadlines in a row, which means that I haven’t read anything in months. Just days ago, I picked up a book for the first time in what feels like forever.

So…what am I reading? Well, I tend to read a couple of books at a time. Usually one non-fiction and one fiction book.

The non-fiction book I just started is The Writer’s Journey, by Christopher Vogler. I’ve read this book a dozen times, but I like to pick it up and refresh myself every once in a while. Helps keep the creative juices flowing and reminds me that writing is a craft, and as with any craft, you have to actively work to keep getting better.

So yes, I’ve dragged out my dog-eared, marked-up, highlighted copy of The Writer’s Journey. Highly recommended!

The fiction novel I’m reading is George R.R. Martin’s A Storm of Swords. I’ve always loved fantasy, and since I’m seriously invested in the Game of Thrones TV series, I figured now’s the time to get caught up on Martin’s books.

Also, I want to be prepared when scenes like the Red Wedding pop up on the screen! I’m still reeling from that one. Mr. Martin is a brave, brave man. I’ll bet he’s read The Writer’s Journey once or twice!

Happy reading, everyone, and have a great summer!
