Kim Barnouin, the New York Times bestselling author of the insanely popular Skinny Bitch cookbooks, gives us the skinny on her inspiration behind her debut novel, Skinny Bitch in Love
 (out now!):

In June of 2011 I was on vacation in La Jolla, California with my son and my mom. As my mom and I sat on the beach watching Jack play in the water, I noticed so many women around us reading the latest summer book release. That’s when the lightbulb went off.

I thought to myself: I want to be a part of the summer beach read! My books so far were about health, nutrition, and food. All interesting topics for women, but at that point in my life, I felt like I wanted to do something different. I called my literary agent from the beach that day and told her my idea. And with that, Skinny Bitch in Love was born.

Sure, a vegan chef for a heroine was a no-brainer for me. But where did her carnivore love interest come from? Two of my favorite movies are The Shop Around The Corner and You’ve Got Mail—about falling in love with the person you’d least expect to get along with! I got to thinking…who’s the last guy on earth a vegan chef would not want around the corner, would never expect to fall for: a bajillionaire steakhouse owner who plans to put his restaurant in her dream location—with a 3D silver steer head on the sign, no less. Clementine Cooper goes to give Zach Jeffries a piece of her mind . . . and finds herself traitorously attracted . . . .

Here it is two years later from that beach brainstorm, and Skinny Bitch in Love is the latest summer book release, just as I hoped for. It’s a very exciting challenge diving into another realm of creativity. I wanted to keep the fiction book in line with the Skinny Bitch series, and make it about food. I love the main character in the story—Clementine Cooper is a vegan chef and is passionate about what she does. I hope the story inspires others to pursue their dreams.
